WhatsApp login for guest Wi-Fi: faster for guests, more useful for you

Why logging in to a café's Wi-Fi with a WhatsApp code beats passwords, email forms and social logins, and how to set it up the right way.

Ask guests for a full form and many will give up and use mobile data. Ask them to log in with a social network and many refuse to share their profile. WhatsApp login sits in between: one field, one short code, and the guest is online.

How it works

  1. The guest joins your Wi-Fi and the welcome page opens.
  2. They type their phone number.
  3. A message arrives on WhatsApp with a short code. They type it, or tap it.
  4. They are online, and next time their phone connects with zero taps.

The code proves the number is real, so your guest list is made of reachable people, not "aaa@aaa.com".

Why WhatsApp rather than SMS or email

  • It is already open. In Morocco and much of the region, WhatsApp is where people talk to friends and to businesses. A code there is seen in seconds.
  • It is reliable. SMS codes can be delayed or filtered; WhatsApp delivery over the venue's Wi-Fi works before the guest is online, because the page lets that one message through.
  • It is a two-way channel. Guests can answer your messages, book a table or ask a question, which an email address rarely gives you.

Keep SMS as a fallback for guests without WhatsApp, and email for hotels and business travellers.

A verified number is not permission to send offers. The marketing box stays separate and unticked, and every message carries a way to stop. Guests who only want Wi-Fi still get Wi-Fi. Our guide to guest Wi-Fi and Law 09-08 explains why.

What to send afterwards

Start with a thank-you two hours after the first visit, with a link to leave a review. Add a win-back message for guests who have not come back in 30 days. Our Wi-Fi marketing guide shows how to measure whether they work.

Setting it up

WhatsApp codes need a WhatsApp Business account and an approved "authentication" message template. Wispot handles the sending: you choose WhatsApp as a way to connect on your welcome page, and you can always offer one-tap access alongside it.

Questions

What if a guest doesn't have WhatsApp?

Offer another way: an SMS code, email, or one-tap access. The welcome page can show several options side by side.

Does the guest need internet to receive the WhatsApp code?

The welcome page allows the WhatsApp message through before login, or the guest can use mobile data for a few seconds. Most phones receive the code right away.

Try it in your venue
